Abstrak
English is a kind of language that has been taught in almost all level of schools in Indonesia also in senior high school. Speaking is one of the four language skills. However, almost the students are still difficulty to speak English because they are ashamed to speak English. To solve the problem above, the writer applies Community Language Learning as one method to improve the students’ speaking ability in Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 The objective of the research is to test the significant difference between of speaking ability to the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus before and after being taught by using Community Language Learning (CLL) in academic year 2012/2013. An experimental research design is used to gather the data, while a quantitative approach Is used to analyze the data. Furthermore, this study was in the area of quasi experimental research one group pretest-posttest design. The data of this study is gathered by having speaking oral test. The oral test of teaching speaking to the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus are given to the thirty five students of social program to the eleventh grade of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013. From the data analysis showed that Community Language Learning gives contribute greatly to improve the teaching speaking. It can be showed by the defferences of the mean score of the test obtained to the students before and after taught by using (CLL). (1) The mean on teaching speaking to the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 before being taught by using (CLL) 67.4 and Standard deviation 6.3. We can see from those results that teaching speaking is Sufficient. (2) While the mean on teaching speaking to the eleventh grade students of eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 after being taught by using CLL is 79.0 and standard deviation is 6.65. It concluded that the teaching speaking is good. (3) Based on the calculation of t-test, with the level of significant is 0.05; the degree of freedom (Df) is 34; t-table is 2.04 and t-observation is 10.3. In other words, t-observation is higher than t-table. As we know from the result of this study above, that there is a significance different between teaching speaking to the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo kudus before and after being taught by using Community Language Learning (CLL) n in academic year 2012/2013. Thus, the writer suggests the teachers for applying and practicing Community Language Learning (CLL) as method to teach speaking. In order to improve the teaching speaking, students need to practice their speaking, not only on their class. But also they have to get extra treatment outside of speaking class.
