English Education department of Teacher Training and Education faculty,Muria Kudus University. Advisor: (i) Mutohhar, S.Pd, M.Pd.,(ii)Rismiyanto,S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: Writing and Roundtable Technique. Writing is one of English skill that students have to understand beside listening, speaking and reading. Writing is a complex process that allows writers to explore thought and ideas and make them visible and concrete. In studying English, students get some difficulties especially writing English, they cannot explore their idea because they do not have enough knowledge. It happens in MA NU TBS Kudus, especially the tenth grade students of MA NU TBS Kudus. Their writing ability are still low, but most of them can speak English. Roundtable is one of cooperative learning technique in which each student in turn writes one answer in a paper and a pencil which are passed around the group. This research is experimental research. The design of this research is quasi experimental research by using test instrument. The experiment of this research uses one group pre-test and post-test design. The experiment is applied to the students of tenth grade of MA NU TBS Kudus in academic year 2012/2013. The result of this research indicates that teaching writingby using Roundtable Technique can develop the writing ability of the students. It can be seen from the pre-test and post-test result. Based on the analyzing data, it was found that the writing ability of the tenth grade students of MA NU TBS Kudus in academic year 2012-2013 before being taught by using Roundtable Technique with the average score (mean) is 63.325, the highest score is 77and the lowest score is 55and the standard deviation is 5.it is categorized as sufficient. Meanwhile, the writing ability of the tenth grade students of MA NU TBSKudus in academic year 2012-2013 after being taught by using Roundtable Technique with the average score (mean) is 72.4, the highest score is 82and the lowest score is 60and the standard deviation is 8.4, it is categorized as good. The hypothesis confirmed in level of significance 0.05 is 2.03and degree of freedom (N-1) = 39 shows that there is significant difference between the writing ability of the tenth grade students of MA NU TBS Kudus in academic year 2012/2013, before and after being taught by using Roundtable Technique. (to10.96> t-table 2.03). The writer gives suggestions to the teacher and the students that the teacher can use Roundtable Technique in teaching writing and Roundtable as one of effective ways to teach writing because it is proved that Roundtable technique works well in increasing the writing ability of the students. Menulis adalah sebuah proses complex yang memperkenankan beberapa penulis untuk menggali pmikiran dan ide-ide nya dan membuat mereka (pmikiran dan ide-ide) nampak dan konkrit. Didalam belajar bahasa inggris, siswa-siswa mendapatkan beberapa kesulitan khusunya menulis bahasa inggris, mereka tidak bisa menggali ide mereka karena mereka tidak mempunyai cukup pengetahuan. Hal itu terjadi di MA NU TBS Kudus, khususnya siswa kelas sepuluh MA NU TBS Kudus. Kemampuan menulis mereka masih rendah, tetapi kebanyakan dari mereka bisa berbicara bahasa inggris. Roundtable merupakan salah satu teknik pembelajaran kooperatif di mana setiap siswa pada gilirannya menulis satu jawaban di kertas dan pensil yang diedarkan kelompok. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian experiment. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi experiment. Experiment ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas sepuluh MA NU TBS Kudus tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa mengajarkan menulis dengan menggunakan tehnik meja bundar bisa mengembangkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Hal itu bisa dilihat dari hasil pre-test dan post-test. Berdasarkan analisis data, telah ditemukan bahwa kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas MANU TBS Kudus tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebelum diajarkan dengan tehnik meja bundar rata-ratanya(mean) adalah 63,325, nilai tertinggi adalah 77, dan nilai terendah adalah 55dan standard deviation adalah 5, hal itu masuk pada level cukup. Sementara itu kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sepuluh MANU TBS Kudus tahun ajaran 2012/2013 setelah diajarkan dengan tehnik meja bundar rata-ratanya(mean) adalah 72,4, nilai tertinggi adalah 82, dan nilai terendah adalah 60dan standard deviation adalah 8,4,hal itu masuk pada level baik. Hyphotesis diterima di level significance 0,05 adalah 2,03 dan degree of freedom (N-1) = 39 menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan yang significant antara kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas MANU TBS Kudus tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebelum dan setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan tehnik meja bundar. Penulis memberikanbeberapa saran kepada guru dan murid-murid yaitu guru bisa menggunakan tehnik meja bundar dalam mengajarkan menulis dan tehnik ini adalah salah satu cara yang efektif untuk mengajarkan menulis karena itu dibuktikam tehnik meja bundar dapat bekerja dengan baik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa.
