Abstrak

ABSTRACT: Surface stress analysis in acetabular cups need to be developed by applying the WIAM material on the hip joint system, considering the WIAM material have better mechanical properties compared to conventional UHMWPE. Modelling acetabular cups need to be developed towards the viscoelastic modeling considering the character of UHMWPE is a viscoelastic material. This study uses the finite element method with ANSYS software . This study makes a contact modeling case on the hip joint system that receives static load for a certain period. The purpose of this study is devoted to study the effect the use of highly crosslinked UHMWPE that has been optimized through a process WIAM (warm-irradiation adiabatic melting) on the results of von mises stress distribution which occurs in an artificial hip joint system if given a static load for a certain period. Results showed the depth of contact for all materials increased with time, it demonstrates the phenomenon of creep in the material viscoelastic when it comes in contact with a constant force load. Application of highly crosslinked UHMWPE materials as hip bearings on artificial hip joint system has better characteristics compared to conventional UHMWPE. This can be seen from the von mises stress that occurred in each layer becomes lower. Giving a higher irradiation dose of 50 kGy (kilograys) did not have much effect on the decrease of von mises stress. From this analysis shows that the most effective material as bearing on the hip joint system when viewed from the large von mises stress occurs is WIAM 50.
