Abstrak

Perception is important to be investigated because through the perception we can know the students’ problem and solution in learning English. The similar things can be described in MA NU TBS Kudus. There are more Arabic lessons than general subject in MA NU TBS Kudus. It affects the students losing their motivation in learning English as they regard that English is less important than Arabic language by looking at their environments. This study is aimed to investigate the students’ perception of English learning in MA NU TBS Kudus. The data taken from questionnaire adapted from Kosmas (2014), and the questionnaire based on the seven aspects namely (1) Classroom Situation, (2) Teaching Aidsand Facilities, (3) Teacher Classroom Management-Methods and Strategies, (4) The Application of English Learning Process, (5) Students’ Motivation, (6) Students’ Roles, and (7) Learning Goals. This research is qualitative study with applying descriptive qualitative method.The data in this research is the students’ perception toward English learning in MA NU TBS Kudus in academic year 2020/2021. In this research the writer chose the 11thgrade students as participant and the data source. After collecting the data, the writer analyzed the data qualitatively. Sugiyono (2010) defines the data analysis consist of three phrases of activities. They are reduction, data display and conclusion drawing verification. From the questionnaire, it showed that the students had positive perceptions as the majority of the answer. The result showed that students in MA NU TBS Kudusonly have five from seven aspectsthat have big impact in English learning process.Because those seven aspects have high percentages in the data, which was showed that student’ 50% of students have high or positive perception toward learning English in MA NU TBS Kudus, 27% of students’ perceptions toward learning English in MA NU TBS Kudus were neutral and undecided, and 23% of students have low perception toward learning English in MA NU TBS Kudus. The writer suggests that this research can be the references for teachers and students in teaching learning process. Therefore, the writer expects that other writers could continue this research at the related topic and find out other aspect that have impact in learning English.
