Abstrak

General Translation class is one of elective subject for the fourth semester students of English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus. In this class, the students are given experiences to translate article, journal, book, and so on. Many students of English Education Department used the services of Google translate to help them as an of their tools to help them with their translation. Google Translate is a solution to human limitation in mastering foreign language. Based on the explanation above, the researcher wants to know the perception of the fourth semester students’ of English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus on using Google Translate in General Translation class. The design of this research is case study research. This research is categorized as a qualitative research since the data which is collected by the researcher is not formed numerical data and cannot be measured. The researcher use questionnaire and document of students’ translation to collect the data. The researcher analyzed the questionnaire by changed the result into percentage to know the frequencies of using GoogleTranslate. The document of students’ translation was analyzed by comparing the student’s translation with GoogleTranslate to know how students use Google Translate in translating. The result of the research showed that from 14 questions there are 122 answers YES and 43 answers NO. Mostly students agree using Google Translate to help them doing assignment. Most of them use Google Translate to translate word to word and fix the sentence structure. They would feel more confidents if rechecking the translation. It is also means that Google Translate have highly affect to the student’s behavior in translating. They translate by themselves but when they found difficult words they will choose to use Google Translate to help them. At the end of this research, the researcher suggests that GoogleTranslate it can be a tool to improve our vocabulary mastery by using Google Translate. But students can’t use it to translate a whole text;students should also try to translate it by yourself.
