Abstrak
In learning English, there are four important skills that should be mastered. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening as one of four language skills is oral and receptive skill. It is a very essential in communication because we cannot catch someone’s idea that is transmitted to us if we don’t have a good listening ability. Based on the researcher observation and view in English Education Department of Muria Kudus University, the seventh semester students are expected to have good listening comprehension skill. But, in fact most of English Education Department students still have some difficulties when they listen sound from English native speaker. To have a good listening comprehension ability is not easy, students’ needs more attention and concentration to comprehend the material that included understanding dialogue and monologue text. It means that listening is a complex process in which many things happen simultaneously inside the mind. Based on the statement of the problem above, the objective of the research is:To describe the problems in listening comprehension of the seventh semester students of English Education Department Universitas Muria Kudus. This research used quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection. Data was gathered by means of questionnaires and interviews in listening comprehension of the seventh semester students of English Education Department Universitas Muria Kudus. Then, the writer annalyzed the data by calculating the percentage of each statement and interpreting the result. Furthermore, the writer analyzed the data of interview by transcribing the form into written form, identify the problems, classify the problems based on category, and interpreting the result. The problems faced by the students’ in English listening comprehension are divided into 2 factors which is one factors are the dominant problems for the students’. The first is listener’s factor which consist of 5 point. Those are feel tired to concentrate on interpreting unfamiliar vocabularies from the speaker, can’t enjoy the conversation when the speakers talk about the topic which I don’t understand, find it hard to understand the speaker’s points while I am reading, feel difficult to predict what speaker is going to say if the conversation is not done by face to face, and think it’s easier to understand news on newspaper rather tv Finally, the writer hopes this research can used for students to find so many information about the listening practices in every sources, like the internet or read the some tips in English books to cope the problems in listening, also for the lecturer can anticipate these difficulties when teaching English Listening Comprehension by explaining about strategies that probably appropriate to cope the problems faced by the students’ in English listening comprehensi
