Some of the features of academic writing which seem to be difficult for non-native speaker are hedges. Hedges in professional scientific research articles are to show politeness (Myers, 1989). Hedges can be defined as the expression of doubt and uncertainty such as may, might, can, could, would, claim, generally, usually and etc. hedges here are very significant in academic discourse since they rhetorical means of gaining communal adherence to knowledge claims (Salager- Mayer :1997). The objective of this research is to identify hedges An Analysis of Hedges in Proceeding of 2nd TEYLIN 2012 Entitled “Using Action Songs to Promote Fun English Learning at Elementary School” and SIGDIAL 2012 Entitled “Perception of Personality and Naturalness through Dialogues by Native Speakers of American English and Arabic” The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method.
