Abstrak
In learning English language, there are four skills that we need for completing the communication. Those skills are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. However, writing is one of the basic skills of English language.Writing is a very important activity and set of skills to develop as part of your academic study. It is a complicated process that requires strict correctness of grammar and mechanics. Based on the explanation above, the objective of the research is to find out the grammatical errors in paragraph writing made by the second semester students of English Education Department of Universitas Muria Kudus. The design of the research is error analysis.The writer used document as a way to collect the data. The writer analyzed the selected portfolio of the student’s writing and classify the grammatical errors were found. After that, the data is interpreted into the result. The result showed the highest error was tense 40%, and the lowest percentage was pronoun with 7%. Furthermore, punctuation error reached 23%, sentence pattern error reached 11%, preposition error reached 10%, and spelling error reached 9%. From the finding, the highest percentage of the student’s grammatical error was tenses. It relate with students problem nowadays. They could be confused to choose or use the right tense for their writing. Most of them weren’t confident with their own writing. At the end of this research, the writer suggest that students should learn more about writing skill in English, especially for the grammar. Try to write as much as possible to make you fluent in writing.
