Abstrak
Vocabulary is a core component of language competence and students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities. Vocabulary becomes the main problem for the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati. The writer tries to apply Instagram English Caption as a media for teaching vocabulary because it can help the students memorize and understand the meaning of English vocabulary and make students more easy and interested in learning English vocabulary. The objective of this research is to discover the students’ vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in academic year 2021/2022 before being taught by using Instagram English Caption, to discover the students’ vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in academic year 2021/2022 after being taught by using Instagram English Caption, to examine whether or not there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in academic year 2021/2022 before and after being taught by using Instagram English Caption. This research uses the quantitative research method especially quasi-experimental research design with one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this research is 55 students, with a sample of 28 students of X MIPA 4 of SMA PGRI 1 Pati. The writer uses a test as the research instrument in the form of multiple-choice consisting of 20 items to collect the data. The result of this research shows that the mean score of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in academic year 2021/2022 before being taught by using Instagram English Caption is 67.64 (sufficient categorized), with the standard deviation is 10.64. Meanwhile, the students’ mean score after being taught by using Instagram English Caption is 90.07 (very good categorized), with the standard deviation is 6.65. It is prove that there is any significant difference of students’ vocabulary mastery of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in academic year 2021/2022 before and after being taught by using Instagram English Caption. The degree of freedom (df) 27 in the level of significance 0.05 with the t (table) ± 2.052 and t (obtained) 11.666. So, the null hypothesis is rejected because t (obtained) is higher than t (table). The writer concludes that Instagram English Caption is an influential media that can enrich the students’ vocabulary because it can help them memorize and understand the meaning of English vocabulary. So, the writer suggested using Instagram English Caption as a media for teaching vocabulary.
