Abstrak

Grammar is partly the study of what forms (or structures) are possible in a language. Relating to grammar one of the important parts is learning tenses. Present tense is a tense which is often used daily. It is a basic tense that has to be mastered. But some students still do not understand it. They often have difficulties and are confused about simple present tense. In this case, it is important to find alternative ways of teaching learning and interesting techniques for students to make fun of process learning. The researcher offers tic tac toe game to make student understand in simple present tense. Based on that, this research focuses on using tic tac toe game in teaching simple present tense of MA NU Banat Kudus. this study aims to find out the effectiveness of the use of Tic Tac Toe games to teaching simple present tense students' mastery at eleventh grade of MA NU Banat Kudus. In this research the researcher applied pre-experimental method. In this research, the researcher just put one group and use pre-test and post-test The population was the eleventh-grade of MA NU Banat Kudus total number of the population is 343. The sample of this research was one class, XI IPS 1 consisted of 35 Students. In collecting data, the researcher used written test, it was did divided into pre-test and post-test. The researcher analyzed the data using SPPS program version 25. Based on the calculation of the data, after using tic tac toe game in teaching simple present tense, the mean score of pre-test (51.54) is lower than the mean post-test (90.00). The researcher finds that the ρ Value is 0.000 and the alpha is 0.05, therefore p<a (0.000<0.05). the researcher conclude that null hypothesis (H0) is reject and alternative was hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Based on the result of the findings, the students score in the post-test is higher than their score in pre-test it means that there is an improvement of students. Based on the description above, it can be concluded that use of tic tac toe game was effective in improving students’ mastery of simple present tense at the eleventh-grade of MA NU Banat Kudus.
