Abstrak

In the modern era, the students should be aware that mastery of speaking is very important. However, many elements may influence this skill. One of them is personality. Extroverts and introverts are the two major personality types associated. This research wants to examine the influence of extrovert and introvert personalities towards English speaking skills and to find out the significant difference between extrovert and introvert on students’ English speaking skills of the twelfth-grade students at SMA N 1 Mayong in 2021/2022 academic year. In this research used quantitative non-experimental method by ex post facto research design. As data collection instruments, questionnaire and documentation were implemented. The questionnaire implemented Eysenck Personality questionnaire (EPQ) and the documentation taken from the students’ speaking score by students’ speaking practice examination. The researcher took 60 students as a sample from the total population was 304 students of the twelfth-grade students at SMA N 1 Mayong in 2021/2022 academic year which consist of nine classes. To get the data, the researcher used cluster random sampling. The research finding showed that extrovert and introvert personalities just gave small impact on students’ English speaking skill of the twelfth-grade students at SMA N 1 Mayong in 2021/2022 academic year. Based on the computation of the Coefficient of determination showed that extrovert personality (X1) toward English speaking skill (Y) was 62.41%. Meanwhile, Coefficient of determination of introvert personality (X2) towards English speaking skill (Y) was 60.68%. Furthermore, the mean score of extrovert students were 84,91 meanwhile the mean score of introvert students were 78,27. Based on the computation above, that could be concluded that there was a significant difference between extrovert and introvert on students’ English speaking skill of the twelfth-grade students at SMA N 1 Mayong in 2021/2022 academic year. Hence, the researcher encourages: the first, between extrovert and introvert students, ought to be aware of their personality to decrease their weaknesses, especially in speaking activities. Second, the teacher was expected to be a facilitator for both extrovert and introvert students. Third, for the following researcher to try to carry out the research in different methods.
