Abstrak
Teaching and learning process trough technology has been done ever since the technology improves on 21st century. The use of a computer, gadget, smartphone, tablet, etc. can become the media for the teachers to teach the students. They usually used it because it can be more effective and efficient in teaching and learning process. The objective of the researcher are to find about the teaching problems that the teachers of SMA PGRI 1 PATI are faced in online teaching. And also to describe the strategies in solving the problems that are faced by the English teacher of SMA PGRI 1 PATI in online teaching. This research is qualitative research that used descriptive method as the research design. The source of the data comes from the English teachers of SMA PGRI 1 PATI. In collecting the data of the research, the researcher used documentation from journal, questionnaire and interview with the teacher. And in analyzing the data, the researcher used there steps. They are data reduction, data display and conclusion. The result of the research shows that the teachers' problems of SMA PGRI 1 PATI is students' passiveness, improving students' encouragement and internet connection to stay connect with the students. And in solving the problem, when the students are passive, the teachers give them motivation and using asking and answering method. When the students' are less encouragement, the teachers calls their name one by one, give them an online learning application just like Quizz and when the teachers and the students have a meeting face to face, the teacher gives them motivation to not being lazy even their study is just at their own home. And when connection is disturbing the teaching and learning process, the teachers send private message for the students one by one or in the group. The other teachers do private consultation because some of the students may shy because of their financial problems in buying quota or buying phone to do online study. It can be concluded that The problems that faced by the English teachers in teaching online learning in SMA 1 PATI in academic years 2020/ 2021 are the problems about applying method and strategies that fit with students’ character when they do English online teaching and learning, so the students can have motivation improvement. And the second problem is about the internet connections that are not stable. In solving the problems about students less motivation, the teachers do private consultation to match the methods and strategies that suited them. And for the internet connection, the teachers contact the students privately and one by one to check for their connection and their problems with the internet connections. The researcher suggests that the teacher should have to learn about method and strategies in teaching online in order to get students attention, so they can improve their encouragement well.Noor Romadlon, S.Pd.,M.Pd.
