Abstrak

The manufacturing industry is an industrial sector in economic activity. The materials used in this industry are very diverse, including iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) so that the production results have various characteristics. Carbon steel is the most commonly used material in the manufacturing industry. Steel is often used as a material for the production of tools and automotive components. The problem that often occurs is in terms of fatigue caused by wear and tear due to the influence of external forces in the form of frictional stresses resulting in deformation (change in shape), to overcome the occurrence of deformation (change in shape) the required material has hard and ductile properties. Materials that have hard and ductile properties are carbon steel. The use of carbon steel itself varies so that the needs and specifications are also different. Hardness test and micrographic test are one of the test methods performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of steel undergoing a heat treatment process. In this research, the hardening heat treatment process for SKD 11 tool steel was carried out at a temperature of 1040°C with a holding time of 2 hours and with Drathon 819.01 oil quenching media. After that, the tempering process was carried out at a temperature of 250°C which was held for 30 minutes.
