                    Abstrak

                    Based on the observation that was done to the fifth grade students of SD 3 Mejobo Kudus in the teaching and learning of natural science subject, in general the students still difficult to face what they have learned without seeing and experiencing directly about what they have got using the real object, as a consequence, the concept that they have got cannot be understood well because the students only memorize from what they have read, so at the end, the results are under the minimum criteria. This condition happens because the teaching and learning process is dominated by teacher only and the students become passive because there is no interest to study. From the problem above, the researcher applied a model of CTL and it can improve the learning outcome of natural science. The model of CTL is a learning’s concept that can help the teacher to connect the material with the real situation and encourage the students to make a correlation between knowledge that they have had with the application in their everyday life, by involving seven main components of contextual learning, they are: (1) Constructivism; (2) Inquiry; (3) Questioning; (4) Learning Community; (5) Modeling; (6) Reflection; and Authentic Assesment. This research uses a method of Classroom Action Research (CAR) that consists of two cycles. The first and the second cycles were conducted in two actions with the time allocation 4x35 minutes for each. The phases in doing this classroom action research are plan, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in SD 3 Mejobo in the academic year 2012/2013 and there are 23 students involved. The instrument of this research is test in every meeting, the activity’s paper of the researcher and students. The mean of final test’s result of the odd semester is 66.35 with the completeness of classical learning 39%. When the teaching and learning process run, the researcher observed the activity of the teacher and students. The learning activity of the students in the first cycle is 61% and in the second cycle got 82% which is categorized as good; there is an improvement about 21%. The teacher’s activity in the first cycle is 63% and in the second cycle become 80%, the improvement is 23%. The students’ result (post- test) after using a model of CTL in the first cycle got the completeness of classical learning about 56% and the second cycle is 78%, there is an improvement on the post- test’s score from the first to the second cycle about 22%. This case shows that the use of CTL’s model can improve the students’ learning outcome. In line with the result of this research, the researcher wants to give several suggestions, those are: (1) teacher should make a variation on the steps of CTL’s model based on the students’ condition without changing the characteristics and components of CTL; and (2) teacher should make a structure or group task to avoid the over time that does not appropriate with the plan before.
