Key Words: Writing, Recount Text , Peer Reviewing. Writing as a productive skill is a very important skill in English for students because writing has some benefits for them. Students can express their idea through writing, for example in writing a recount text. They can tell their own experience. In writing a text, students may find some difficulties and make some mistakes. Teachers should help them to solve their problem so students can improve their writing ability. The writer found problem owned by the eighth grade students of MTs N Gembong in conducting writing. Peer reviewing can be used by students to respond their friend’s writing and give comment whether they make mistakes. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is any significant difference between the ability of writing recount text of the eighth grade students of MTs N Gembong in academic year 2012/ 2013 before and after being taught by using Peer Reviewing. In this research, the writer uses experimental research design without control group. There are two variables in this research; they are Peer Reviewing as independent variable and the Ability of Writing Recount Text of the Eighth Grade Students of MTs N Gembong in Academic Year 2012/2013 as dependent variable. The writer determines the eighth grade students of MTs N Gembong in academic year 2012/2013 as the population and takes class VIII A as a sample. The writer uses test to get the accurate data. The result of this research shows that the ability of writing recount text of the eighth grade students of MTs N Gembong in academic year 2012/2013 before being taught by using peer reviewing is categorized as sufficient. The mean is 56 and standard deviation is 76,20. Meanwhile, the ability of writing recount text of the eighth grade students of MTs N Gembong in academic year 2012/2013 after being taught by using peer reviewing is categorized as good. The mean is 76 and standard deviation is 47,96. The calculation of t-test gets the result 15,48, t-table is 2,05. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the ability of writing recount text of the eight students of MTs N Gembong academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using peer reviewing. Considering the process and the result of this research, the writer gives suggestions. For the English teachers, they can apply peer reviewing as alternative technique in teaching writing to improve their students’ ability in writing, especially in writing recount text. For the students, they should not be afraid when they asked by the teacher to write a text. They can use peer reviewing with their friends to improve their ability in writing text. Hopefully, there will be further studies observing other advantages of writing recount text by using peer reviewing.
