                  Abstrak

                  Amti’ah. 2013. The Ability of Identifying Generic Structure of Reading Texts of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2013/2014.Skripsi.English Education Department.Teacher Training and Education Faculty.Muria Kudus University. Hum Key Words : Reading text, Students Ability In teaching English for Senior High School Students, Reading text become the material which must be taught for the students. There are many kinds of text type. Report text, Narrative text, Analytical Exposition, Spoof text, Hortatory Exposition kinds of genre . Most of the students still cannot understand the simple genre taught by their teacher especially the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus. They are still confused how to analyze the generic structure correctly. Many of them cannot distinguish each of generic structure in a genre. Their limitation of genre knowledge makes them can not recognize the kind of genre and the students still difficult to understand the kind of genre. Based on the background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “ The Ability of Identifying Generic Structure of Reading Texts of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2013/2014”. The purpose of the research is to find out the extent of the ability of analyzing the generic structure of reading text of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic year 2013/2014 and what are the difficulties of students in analyzing the generic structure of reading text of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic year 2013/2014. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The subject of the research is the Eleventh grade students of Class XI Science 4 consist of 30 students of SMA 2 Kudus. The result of this research shows that the result of analyzing the generic structure of reading text test that was given to the sample of the eleventh grade students, the value of mean is 72,6 and standard deviation is5,18. it means, The ability of Identifying Generic Structure of Reading Text of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 2 Kudus in Academic Year 2013/2014 is categorized as good. The difficulties of students of The highest precentage is 90 % in identifying hortatory exposition text and the Lowest percentage is 3,33 %. So, the students still can not understand well about hortatory exposition. Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer suggests that The teacher should give the clear explanation about the generic structure of genre, giving the example of analyzingof every text is also important to improve students’ mastery in reading text. Teacher should pay attention in it, in order to get the maximal result in examination. The students should study more about genre especially generic structure of the reading text.
