                  Abstrak

                  Vocabulary is one important aspect in learning a foreign language. Without a proportional amount of vocabulary anyone will get trouble in her speaking, reading, listening, writing. Developing the students vocabulary is one of the most important tasks for English teachers. Because of them, vocabulary must be taught from the Elemntary school to give more times to learn the English. Meanwhile, the students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak also have some problems in learning vocabulary. They cannot memorize the new words given in every meeting well. To solve the problem,the writer use Words Pockets. By using Words Pockets, the students will always remember the new vocabulary because the students are not confused to understand the new vocabulary by some pictures and words served in cards. Based on the background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “Improving Students Vocabulary by Using Words Pockets (A Classroom Action Research) of the Fifth Grade Students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak in academic year 2013/2014”. The objectives of the research are: (i) To find out if the use of words pockets can improve their ability in mastering English vocabulary of the fifth grade students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. (ii) To know does the words pockets improve the ability in mastering English vocabulary of the fifth grade students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak Kaliwungu Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. (iii) To know the students response of the use of words pockets can improve their ability in mastering English vocabulary of the fifth grade students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. This research is Classroom Action Research. The subject of the research is the fifth grade students of MI NU Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan Krapyak Kudus which consist of 48 students (30 girls and 18 boys). This research consists of two cycles and each cycle has instrument, they are achievement test, observation and questionnaire. In the result, the mastery on English vocabulary improve from cycle I until cycle II. In cycle I, the average score of the mastery on English vocabulary is 79,37 as sufficient category with 3 students (6,25%) could not reach the KKM. In cycle II, the average score of the mastery on English vocabulary is 95,41 as excellent category with 48 students (100%) who could reach the KKM. The writer suggests that the teacher should use enjoyable media because it can attract students to understand and master on English vocabulary well. Words Pockets media is a good media for building English vocabulary. The English teacher can use media in teaching and learning process. It makes students interested in teaching and learning process.
