Abstrak

Listening is an activity that is integral to any learning process that listening in one of the four language skills and is the main capital for the absorption of the content or intent of teaching the subject. Purpose of this study was to determine the ability to listen to English song of ninth grade student of high school Islamic Centre Demak of the school year 2006/2007. The research was conducted at the Islamic Centre Demak high school ninth grade the number of 36 students. Kind of research that writer used is descriptive research. In data collection, the author uses the results of each student worksheet about 4 times the correct and incorrect answers when given a value of 1. So if the question is about the number 25, then the correct answer for all students will score 100. After calculating the data can be seen that the ability to listen song of Ninth Grade Students of High School Islamic Centre Demak the School Year 2006/2007. categorized very good. With an average of 85.94, the lowest 58 and highest value of 100. Based on the above findings, the authors suggested that more teachers develop instructional media are more varied and enjoyable for students one of them is using different types of songs. Students will get used to listening vocabulary - the new vocabulary contained in the song. Teaching listening by using the song one way to optimize the right-brain functions. Differences in the theory of functions of the right brain and left brain has been popular since 1960. A researcher named Roger Sperry discovered that the human brain consists of two hemister (part), the right brain and left brain which have different functions. Right brain function in the development of EQ (Emotional Quotient), while the left brain function as the controlling IQ (Intelligence Quotient). Teachers should control the development of each student, with any material way to know the students completed it or not teachers should be able to conduct the evaluation so as to know what is lacking in the delivery of learning and what the difficulties faced by students in receiving lessons from a teacher. Teachers can put the position as a friend for their students so that learning objectives can be quickly achieved a success if it can be said of teaching according to learning objectives
