Abstrak

The brown planthopper (BPH) is an important pest in rice that easily become resistance to conventional insecticides. The neem is a plant potentially able used as botanical pesticide to control particular insects. Active ingredients of neem are azadirachtin, melantriol and nimbidin as digest target site and ecdysone blocker, however less study about neem application to BPH. This research aimed to determine relationship between neem application and BPH mortality. The population of BPH used was an susceptible population reared in Plant Protection Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Muria Kudus University. The Pandan Wangi variety was commonly used by farmers, thus it used as host for mass rearing of BPH. The neem used in this research was from surrounding Muria Kudus University that was extracted using alcohol by evaporation method. The treatment of neem concentrations were used: 20%, 10%, 5%, 2.5% and 0% using dipping method. CRD was used for research and data were analyzed by ANOVA and then LSD (α = 5%). The highest mortality was from 20% concentration. The mortality decreased 27% in second days after application and there was no mortality in forth days. Therefore, the LC50 in 24 hours after application was 38.01% and application of extracted neem was only effective until third days after application.
