                    Abstrak

                    Vocabulary is the first step for students to learn English. Therefore, vocabulary is introduced from Elementary School to give more times to learn English. Meanwhile, the students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus also have some problems in learning vocabulary. They are still poor in vocabulary,when the teacher asks to the students about the meaning of the name of fruit, they do not understand about the meaning. To solve the problem, the writer uses Word Clap Game. Word clap game is a game that uses claps with callaboration with the other students. By using Word Clap Game, the students in knowing or recognizing a word and the meaning it self by Word Clap Game. Based on the background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “The Vocabulary Mastery of the Fifth Grade Students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 Taught by Using Word Clap Game”. This research has a purpose of this research to find out the answer from the statement of the problem. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference of English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game. This research is quasi experimentalresearch. The subject of the research all of students of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak which consist of 22 students. The instrument of the research was a multiple choice test given to the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus. The result of this research shows that (i) the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before being taught by using word clap game is sufficient. (Mean = 60.05, Standard Deviation = 18.78) (ii) the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 after being taught by using word clap game is Excellent. (Mean = 81.18, Standard Deviation = 25.38) (iii) there is a significant difference between the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game. The calculation of t-test 4.296 with level of significant 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) 21 which is gained N-1, t-table is 2.080. It is concluaded that there is significant difference the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game. Considering the result of this research, the writer suggests that the English teacher should be more creative and innovative in selecting the suitable methods and media in teaching learning process. Word Clap Game can be used as alternative media to teach English vocabulary. In fact, Word Clap Game can effective for teaching English vocabulary mastery. Besides, the students should more active during teaching learning process.
