Abstrak

The English textbook must not contain language skills demanded by the curriculum but it also must fit the needs of the students. The authors developed the English textbook to give the contribution in the process of teaching and learning. English textbook helps students and teachers in mastering the English skills and components. In addition, English textbook can be used as guidance in doing the activities in the class. This research focuses on the analysis of the Norms in the Reading Passages of Senior High School English Textbook. The writers investigate and explore the norms of discipline, trust, tolerance, respect to others and self-confidence found in the reading passages of English textbook for Senior High School students. The design of the research is descriptive qualitative which aims at investigating the norms in the Reading Passages of Senior High School English Textbook. The result of this study describes that there are five types of norms found in the in the Reading Passages of Senior High School English Textbook. They are trust, discipline, respect to others, self-confidence and tolerance. Those norms are very essential for students to be applied in daily life not only in the class but also in their students’ environment. Norms are closely related for human being in communication. This research hopefully will give contribution to the teaching and learning process in Senior High School in English class and also to the English Education Department of Muria Kudus University.
