                    Abstrak

                    The one of important components to learn any languages is vocabulary. So, when people want to write, to speak, and to understand what they read, they need to master vocabulary. By learning vocabulary, the students can improve their listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Nevertheless, the fact show that many students, especially in elementary school they have difficulties to memorize the new English vocabulary that they learn. Hence, I choose ABC-nan game as a technique for teaching English vocabulary. Because ABC-nan game can make the students more interested and motivate in learning process, especially for learning English vocabulary. The aim of this research is to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth graders of SD N 2 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2026/2017 before and after being taught by using “ABC-nan”. The design of this research is experimental research; used one group pre-test and post-test with 20 multiple choice items as instrument of the research. The subject of this research is all of the fifth graders of SD N 2 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2016/2017. The result of this research shows that in level significance 5% and degree of freedom (df) N-1 = 18, there is a significant difference between the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth graders of SD N 2 Mejobo Kudus before and after being taught by using “ABC-nan”. From the calculating result t-observation (t0) is 5.26, while t-table is 2.101. It means that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted (t0 = 5.26 > tt = 2.101). The English vocabulary mastery of the fifth graders of SD N 2 Mejobo Kudus after being taught by using “ABC-nan” is “Good”(Mean = 76 and Standard Deviation = 12.3), and the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth graders of SD N 2 Mejobo Kudus before being taught by using “ABC-nan” is “sufficient” (Mean = 62 and standard deviation = 13). Based on the result above, I suggested that the teacher can use ABC-nan as an alternative technique to teach English vocabulary to the student and also can create teaching and learning process more interesting, innovative and enjoyable, because ABC-nan game is an effective technique to teach English vocabulary.
