Abstrak

Presupposition is study of pragmatic. Presupposition concerns something presupposed to be true in a sentence which asserts other information. It requires a consideration of how speakers organize what they want to say in accordance to whom they are talking to, where they are talking, when they are talking, and under what circumstances they are talking. The objective of the this research are to to find out the presupposition types in film Hotel Transylvania 2 and to interpret the intended meaning of dialogue in film Hotel Transylvania 2. In this research, the writer uses qualitative research in the type of descriptive research. It is used because the writer focus in analyzing and measuring words, phrases, clauses or sentences in the text. The writer analyzes presupposition in film Hotel transylvania 2. In Hotel Transylvania 2, all Yule’s six types of presupposition are found. The Existensial Presupposition is the most-used type of presupposition with total 6 data out of 20 data (30%). The second most-used type of presupposition is Counter Factual Presupposition with 4 data out of 20 data (15%). The third most-used type of presupposition are Factive Presupposition, Lexical Presupposition and Structural Presupposition. Each of the types has 3 data out of 20 data (15%). The least-used type is the Non-Factive Presupposition. It only has 1 data out of 20 data (5%). The Existensial Presupposition becomes the most-used type of presupposition in the film because the characters of the film wants to show the existence of vampire family. The intended meaning of presupposition in this film found by use Yule’s theory and the context of the film. Existensial presupposition derivered from assumption that something is exist and the utterance also in possesive construction, Factive Presupposition derivered from some words which shows facts, Non-Factive presupposition derivered from some verbs that are assumed not to be true, Lexical Presupposition derivered from the use of one form with its asserted meaning is conventionally interpreted with the presupposition that another (nonasseted) meaning is understood, Structural Presupposition derivered from associated with certain sentences structures, where the speaker treats them as presupposed information and accepted be true by listeners, Counter Factual Presupposition derivered from the if-clause construction where the information is not true at the time of the utterance. The context of the film gained through four factors. They are (1) the participants, (2) the setting or social context of the interaction, (3) the topic of the conversation, and (4) the function of the conversation. The writer expects that by studying pragmatic presupposition, the readers of this research will not only understand about vocabulary of dialogue in film, but they also understand about context and meaning in dialogue which important to following the plot of film.
