Abstrak

In learning English there are four skills students should have master and listening comprehension as one of the skills is considered to be the one having the most important role in building communication skill. Although listening is the basic skill in understanding English, it is the most difficult to master of all areas (SMP,SMA, University) of language skill because English has different elements that can cause some difficulties for Indonesian student. Not only that, teaching listening sometimes still uses monotone activities in classroom. A media is surely be used to help teacher in arousing the students’ interest to study English. Media are not only pictures and stories, but internet sites can be applied to teach language in classroom too. One of them is Animation clip. Animation clip as media which offers both a visual and audio depiction of dialougue and story in a potential real-life situation. It allows students to access more information while listening. From that problem above, this research has a purpose to find out the answer from the statement of the problem, listening ability in recount text of the tenth grader of SMA PGRI 1Pati in Academic year 2017/2018 after being taught by using Animation Clip is better than before. This is a quantitative research, which relies on quantitative data based on computation and measurement, operational variables and statistics. The method of the research is experiment. The design of the study is the quasi-experimental method with pre-test and post-test . the data taken from result of student’s test with. This research applied a cluster random sampling technique to get samples. After the students are given the pre-test, they are given the treatment for four meetings. Then, the data is analyzed by using the t-test method to find out whether listening ability in recount text of the tenth grader of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in Academic year 2017/2018 after being taught by using Animation Clip is better than before. From the Analysis , the writer finds that the best score that the students achieve before being taught by using Animatin clip is 90 and the lowest score is 55. While the average score (mean)of the students is 65.5, the median and the standard deviation is 7.08. It means that the student’s ability before being taught by using Animation clip catagorized as sufficent. And after they have been taught by using Animation clip, the English score that the students achieve is 95 and the lowest is 75. Meanwhile, the average is 85.03and standard deviation is 6.84. It means that listening ability after being taught by using Animation clip catagorized as good.. The result of ttest is 9.81. So, listening ability of the tenth grader of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in Academic year 2017/2018 before and after taught by using Animation clip is better than before.
