Abstrak

Movie script is a dialogue text that used in a movie that sometimes has a meaning that is difficult to understand. In the movie script there are several texts that contain lexical cohesion. Lexical cohesion is one of the parts of the cohesive device that has an important role in linking from word to word, clause to clause, and sentence to the next sentence. The objectives of this research are to find the types of lexical cohesion and to describe the functions of each types of lexical cohesion contained in The Bourne Supremacy movie script. This research design uses a qualitative method. Data in the form of sentences and collected by recording. Data were analyzed using cohesive devices, namely lexical cohesion taken in movie script from The Bourne Supremacy movie. The result of this research indicate that there are 40 sentences contains lexical cohesion in The Bourne Supremacy movie script. Reiteration is the most often found in lexical cohesion subcategories. There are 35 examples of reiteration of the total occurrence, with repetition appears 24 times, synonym appears 4 times, antonym appear 1 time, hyponym appear 1 time, and meronym appears 5 times. While collocation appears 5 times of total occurrences. From the result above, the writer conclude that in The Bourne Supremacy movie script there are all types of lexical cohesion, with repetition being the most frequent type found. So repetition is a type of lexical cohesion that is most often used by the author of the script to reassert some objects, and events in a dialogues. Based on the conclusions of the research, the writer would like to suggest the students that lexical cohesion is a learning material that they had to learn to make the students know all of the types of lexical cohesion and the functions of each types in order to make it easier to understanding the content of the text in depth.
