Abstrak

The topic of this study is The Ability of Reading Narrative Text of The EighthGrade Students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo Pati Taugth by Using Folktale Video in the Academic year 2011/2012. In this study, the writer presented three problems: 1) To what extent is the Ability of reading narrative text of the eight year students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo pati taught by using Folktales video in the academic year 2011/2012? 2) To what extent is the ability of reading narrative text of the eight year Students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo pati taught by using printed Text in the academic Year 2011/2012? 3) Is there any significant difference between the ability of Reading narrative texts of the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Sukolilo Pati taught by using printed Text and Folktale Video in academic year 2011/2012?” The Objectives of this study were: 1) to find out the ability of reading narrative of the Eight year students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo Pati taught by using Folktales video in The academic year 2011/2012.2)To find out the ability of reading narrative text of The eight year students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo Pati taught by using printed Text in The academic year 2011/2012.3)To find out whether there is a significant Difference between the ability of reading narrative of the eight year students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo Pati taught by using printed Text and Folktales video in the Academic year 2011/2012. This study was conducted by using experimental Research to the eighth year students of SMPN 01 Sukolilo Pati as the population. The population consists of seven classes. Two classes were chosen as the sample, they were 8A as the experimental group and 8B as the control group. These two Groups got four meetings. At the second and third meetings, the experimental group was taught by using Folktale Video and the control group was taught by using Printed Text. For the last meeting, the Post-test was given to these two groups. The result post-test Showed that the average scores for the experimental group was 60. The average score for the control group was 55. After the treatment, the Average score of post-test for the experimental group was 78.71 and the average Score of post-test for the control group was 73.02 after the test of significance, the T-test number (2.43) was higher than t-table (2.00). It means that the experimental Group understands reading of narrative texts was better than the control group. Besides using test, this study was also using obsevation. From the result of the obsevation, it can be seen that the Folktale Video was effective to teach narrative Reading because of some reasons: 1) the students like to read English story, 2) the Students were interested in the pictures of the story Folktale Video, 3) the students Could understand the story easily from the folktale Video pictures, 4) the students Knew the meaning of the words in the story from the folktale video pictures, 5)The Students enjoyed reading the story Folktale video more than the storyText.
