Abstrak
Using language is not simple as we thought because we have to know the structures, meaning and forms of language. Form of language in written and spoken or formal and informal are different. In skripsi abstract, complete sentence in English, minimally consists of verb and its subject and express a complete thought. The writer must not broken of one of them because it is called sentence fragment and can make the reader confused. The objectives of the research are to describe sentence constructions and to describe the types of sentence fragments found in the students’ skripsi abstracts of English Education Department of Muria Kudus University completed in 2012. In this research, the writer used descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research was sentences and the data source of the research was skripsi abstracts of qualitative research written by the students of English Education Department of Muria Kudus Universitycompleted in 2012. The result of this research shows thatfrom the 98 sentences, there are 7 types of constructions found in the six skripsi abstracts of qualitative research of English Education Department of Muria Kudus University completed in 2012. The most dominant construction used by the students is construction contains structure of modification, structure of predication, structure of complementation and structure of coordination. Beside that, the writer found 14 sentence fragments consists of 1 dependent clause, 11fragments missing a verb or a part of verb that include a tense and 2 fragments missing a subject. Thus, the writer suggests for English students, they should know the grammatical formsin English and pay more attention with their sentence constructions when they make a complex sentence. For the English lecturers, they can givemore explanation and emphasis in sentence fragments. Beside that, they can also give more attention to the students who have low ability in grammatical forms in order to control their sentence constructions whether it is right or wrong.
