Abstrak

The background of this research is about students' learning achievement in mathematic which is still low. It is shown in the mean class score 60 and completeness 46.16%. It is happened because ( i) students have less motivation in Learning mathematic, (2) in teaching and learning process the teacher used preaching method (3) students only got the information from the teacher (4) the language used is difficult to be understood by students (5) teacher never use grouping in teaching (6) never use simple game in teaching. The purpose of this research is to know the improvement of students' learning achievement in fractions material of mathematic through snowball throwing of fourth grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Pasuruan. Students achievement is the result of the students after learning process. Snowball throwing model is a learning model that focuses on students' ability to ask in form of game by throwing question ball to the other students that comprising 6 phases (1) convey the purpose and motivate students (2) give information (3) organize students in grouping (4) guide the group work (5) evaluate (6) give assessment. The hypothesis of this research is snowball throwing can improve students learning achievement in fractions material of mathematic of fourth grade students of SD Muhammadiyah pasuruan. This classroom action research is done at the fourth grade students of SD Muh paduruan in academic year 2013/2014. There are 39 students that consist of 17 boys and 22 girls. Variables of this research are the use of snowball throwing and students' learning achievement in fractions material of mathematic. This research is done in two cycles, for each cycles consist of 2 meetings, and there are 4 steps in every meeting such as planning, acting, observing, reflecting. The data collection used test, observation, interview and documentation. The result of this research shows that there is improvement of students learning achievement by mean and completeness percentages are pre cycle 60 (46.16%), first cycle 68.72(69.23%) and second cycle 73.33(79.48%) which is supported by increasing in students' learning activities of 73.52%(high) in first cycle 73.82% (high) in second cycle. The teaching skill of the teacher also increases of 76% (high) in first cycle to 83% (very high) in second cycle. Based on the research, the writer concludes that the use of snowball throwing can improve students learning achievement in fractions material of mathematic of fourth grade students of SD Muhammmadiyah Pasuruhan Jati Kudus. The writer suggests for students should be more active in learning process, for teacher can use snowball throwing as learning method in teaching mathematic and apply the other creatives method, for school can motivate teacher to do good improvement in education and teaching learning process, for other researcher can improve the teaching implementation to be better.
