Abstrak

Reading is one of English skills. By reading we will get some information and it can enrich our knowledge. In reading ability, the learners are forced to understand both reading comprehension and reading skills. In reading comprehension, the students do not read the text only, but also they want to know about the content of the text. For the tenth grade students, reading is the basic to study English. It is impossible for the students to study English if they cannot read the word or the sentence. The objectives of this research are to find out the data about the reading comprehensions of short story in Hello magazine of the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 BAE KUDUS in academic year 2012/2013 with high English achievements, to find out the reading comprehension of short story in Hello magazine of the tenth year students of SMA N 2 BAE KUDUS in academic year 2012/2013 with low English achievements, and to find out a significant difference between the reading comprehensions of Short Story in Hello magazine of the tenth year students of SMA N 2 BAE KUDUS in academic year 2012/2013 with high and low English achievements. To obtain the objectives of the research, the writer uses ex post facto as a suitable method. To complete the data, the writer is used documentation and test. The Population of this research is all of the students of SMA N 2 BAE KUDUS (X 1-X 10) with 327 students. Then, the sample is 34 students (X6). Based on data analysis, it can be indicated that there is a significant difference between the reading comprehensions of short story in Hello magazine of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 2 Bae Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013 with high and low English achievements. The t-observation is higher than t-table (t0 = 57.7 > tt = 2.021). Finally, in the writer’s suggestion, the English teachers of Senior High School especially in SMA N 2 Bae Kudus can use short story in Hello magazine to measure the students reading comprehension. For the students, they should to study more and more about reading to improve their capability in reading skill
