Abstrak
Teaching English at elementary school is a teaching English fundamental for the next phases. It has a big contribution for the students. If the students make an error in pronouncing the English words that will be necessary in the next steps of learning process. The researcher found some problem that face of the fifth grade students of SDN Kayen 03 pati in the academic year 2012/2013. They are some reasons that explained by the teacher and one of them is students is confused to pronounce English words because the differences between sounding of English word and their written. They are many kind of technique that is used to teach English pronunciation for the students. One of them that researcher wants to apply is Phonological Awarenessas a teaching technique to increase the mastery English pronunciation for the students. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not there is a significant difference between the mastery of English Pronunciation of the fifth grade students of SD N Kayen 03 Pati in the academic year 2012/2013 taught by using Phonological Awareness. To answer the research questions, the researcher holds an experiment to apply Phonological Awareness in teaching English. He makes a one group pretest-posttest experiment. The number of sample is 20. He uses test as the instrument to gather the data of the students’ mastery of English Pronunciation before and after being taught by using Phonological Awareness. The result of the experiment shows that calculating of t-test, with the level of significant 5%, the degree of freedom (Df) 19, and t-table (tt) 2, 09, the t-observation (to) obtained is 7, 44. In other words, t-observation is higher than t-table (t0 ˃ tt). In detail, after taught by using Phonological Awareness, the means 68. 9 or categorized as “high”. It is higher than Mean of the Mastery of English Pronunciation of fifth grade students of SD N Kayen 03 Pati in the academic year 2012/2013 before being taught by using Phonological Awareness Circuit which is 57. 5 or categorized as “sufficient”. Therefore, the hypothesis of the research that states that there is significant difference between the mastery of English Pronunciation of the fifth grade students of SD N Kayen 03 Pati in the academic year 2012/2013 between before and after being taught by using Phonological Awareness. Therefore, the researcher suggests that all teacher give innovation and creation in teaching process. It is also suggested for the other researchers to develop such study in the other occasions.
