Abstrak

In the classroom, reading is one of ways to make the students understand. Every student has different character, so the teacher is expected to present some ways to make interested in the lesson. The objective of the research is to know the teacher strategies in teaching readingSMA NEGERI 1 Mayong in Jepara. In this research, the writer uses qualitative research in the type of descriptive research. It is used because this research focused on a certain phenomenon in the school environment. In this case the phenomenon is the activities of teaching and learning English. The writer found that teacher uses four strategies in teaching reading SMA Negeri 1 Mayong, those are metacognition, answering question, summarizing and recognizing story structure. Mr. BU in class X MIPA 4 uses metacognition because asks students to predict the meaning of the word that fits the sentence and the text theme or have control over their reading to find correct meaning of the difficult word. Mr. BU in class X MIPA 3 uses answering question because it is exact with assignment from teacher to students to answering the questions based on the text or textually implicit information (information that was implied in the text). Mrs. R in class X MIPA 1 uses summarizing in teaching reading in SMA N 1 Mayong because he asks students to finding important in what they are reading and to put it into their own words by have them use key words or phrases to identify the main points from the text and teacher in SMA N 1 Mayong Mrs. R in class X MIPA 2 uses recognizing story structure because he asks students to analyze content and structure of the text they choose correctly. The writer expects that the teachers’ choose appropriate teaching reading strategies in classroom. Teachers’ teaching reading strategies must be applied because this is the teacher’s way to determine learning goals during teaching learning process.
