Abstrak

English is very important language, so English becomes one of the materials in teaching and learning in Indonesia. One way of mastering English is by improving the mastery of grammar. Grammar is the whole system and structure of a language in general. Dictogloss is one of activities in teaching grammar that can raise students’ consciousness of the form and function of targeted grammatical items. Dictogloss is an alternative method used to teach grammar in classroom. And also dictogloss is complete technique because it includes four skills in English such as listening, speaking, writing and reading. The objective of this research is to find out the significant difference between the grammar achievement of the eleventh grade students of MA NU Miftahul Ulum Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using dictogloss. The design used in this research is quantitative experimental. The population is the eleventh grade students of MA NU Miftahul Ulum Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013. The writer takes XI 1 as the sample by using cluster random sampling. The research instrument used by the writer is the pre-test and the post-test in multiple choice form. The number of the tests is 25 items. The pre-test result shows the mean is 64.95 and the standard deviation is 9.42, while the post-test data shows the mean is 86.04 and the standard deviation is 8.52. The calculation of t-test shows t0 = 5.44> t-table = 2.04, it means there is a significant difference between the grammar achievement of the eleventh grade students of MA NU Miftahul Ulum Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 before and after taught by using dictogloss. Based on the result above, the writer suggests that the teacher can use the suitable technique, methods and media in teaching English. By using dictogloss, the students can be more interested, more active, and easier in learning grammar.
