Abstrak

By the time English has become popular and important in our country so that English has become the foreign language in Indonesia. Then, English must be mastered by every student who wants to graduate from senior high school until collage because English is needed more and more by our nation to connect other countries. The case forces the teachers have to make a good design that can cause the students learn optimally. Focusing on senior high school students’ condition in studying English, they still get difficult enough in practicing their speaking. Based on the thought, English comic can help the students improve their speaking ability. It would be performed by the researcher as a grand idea through English teaching. The objectives of this research is to improve the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Jekulo in the academic year 2011/2012 taught by using English Comic. The researcher did the research for the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012. The design of the research is classroom action research. The improvement is found out by using two cycles. Then, the cycle is observed by the researcher. The mean of the students’ score was 71.7 before cycles then become 80.1 after get the cycles. Beside, the percentage of the students who get score under KKM (Minimum Score Criteria) before cycles are 58.3% then becomes 11.4% after cycles. However, it also shows that the cycle significantly did not progress the speaking for smart students, but it significantly progress of dense students. The English teaching using English comic through the activities in pre-learning, main-learning, and post-learning with the problem and solving, effectively is useful to help English learning increase the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012 as they had been targeted. Based on the research result above, it is suggested to English teacher to consider about using English comic to teach the students of senior high school.
