Abstrak

The mastery of Vocabulary Mastery of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus is still unsatisfying. It is still limited on their ability in knowing the meaning of the English vocabulary and many students still have low in vocabulary mastery. Therefore, they have to get a new way to enrich their vocabulary. This situation make the teacher find a media which enables the students to understand the meaning of English vocabulary. Picture is one of media that can make the students master vocabulary easily. The purpose of this research is to find out the answer from the statement of the problem. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference of vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using Picture. The subject of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013. This research is experimental research. The writer uses experimental design that is one group pretest-pos-test design. In this research, there are two variables; they are Picture as independent variable and the mastery of vocabulary of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 as the dependent variable. The writer determines the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 as the population and takes X AP as a sample which consist of 46 students and uses a test to get the accurate data. The result showed that the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus before being taught by using Picture was categorized sufficient. The mean and standart deviation are 64,10 and 8,05. Meanwhile, the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus after being taught by using Picture was categorized good. The mean and standart deviation are 75,39 and 9,15. The value of t-observation (to) is 6,50 in the level of significant 0.05 and in the level of significant 0.05 the value of t-table (tt) is 2,02. Meanwhile the degree of freedom (df) 45 which is gained from N-1. It is concluded that there is significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using Picture. Considering the process and the result of this research, the writer suggests that the teacher should use interesting media in teaching English especially in the mastery of vocabulary. The English teacher can use Picture as a media to enrich the vocabulary mastery because it creates a comfortable non-stressful environment for learning and prcticing English; the students who take English class can use Picture as a media to improve their vocabulary mastery because it can help them learn more, have more fun and develop many other skills; for further researcher, a similar research can also be conducted to improve the other skills.
