Abstrak

The research objective in this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference between the reading ability of descriptive text of the eighth grade students of MTs. Baitul Mu’minin Jati Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using pictorial poster. This study is domain of experimental research. In this study the population is the whole of the eighth grade students of MTs.Baitul Mu’minin Jati Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using pictorial poster. They are 20 students. I use random sampling. The instrument that I use was multiple choice tests. The number of question is thirty. The test is used to know the ability of descriptive text of eight grade students of MTs. Baitul Mu’minin Jati Kudus taught by using pictorial poster in academic year 20122012 by using the formula, such as mean, median, mode, standard deviation. The result of the study shows that the first students of MTs. Baitul Mu’minin Jati Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 get score range 68-85. The lowest score is 68 and the highest score is 83, mean (76.8) and standard deviation (4.5). it is concluded that there is a significant difference of the reading ability of the eighth grade students of MTs. Baitul Mu’minin Jati Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 before and after taught by using pictorial poster. It means that the students made significant progress in reading ability. The researcher suggests that the teacher should use interesting media in teaching English especially in the English reading ability. Pictorial poster is one of the interesting media in teaching English in reading ability. So the teacher should use pictorial poster media to motivate the students to improve imagination in the mastering of reading ability.
