Abstrak

Reading is a very important way to get a lot of information in the world. By reading, everyone can gain knowledge to share with others. Especially for students who are still low in understanding the meaning of a text, to express main ideas and develop students' vocabulary, making it easy for them to know the meaning and meaning of a text. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of students' reading comprehension towards descriptive text in class VII Qudsiyyah Putri Kudus Islamic Boarding School in the 2021/2022 academic year teaching by using Reading Comprehension Techniques Using Small Group Discussion. and explain, present simple descriptive text, assign students to work in groups, study together, test, introduce groups. The formulation of the problem in this study is to find out whether there is a significant difference between reading comprehension and descriptive text in class VII Pondok Pesantren Qudsiyyah Putri Kudus in the 2021/2022 academic year before and after being taught using reading comprehension using small group discussions. The model in this study is an experiment by giving a pre-test and post-test in one class. The sample in this study was class VII B with 36 students. The research instrument used a test with 10 questions consisting of multiple choices. To analyze the data using the Mean (Average), Principal Deviation, and hypothesis testing using t-test. The results of this study prove that the mean of the pre-test is 68 and the principal deviation is 9.31. the results can be classified as “satisfactory”. While the average of the post-test is 83 and the principal deviation is 8.88. it can be classified as “good”. To test the hypothesis obtained t (obtained) 9.87 at t-table 2.042, df = 35 and significant level (sgaj) = 0.05. The writer concludes that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, because t(obtained) falls in the critical region. And there is a significant difference between reading comprehension and descriptive text in class VII Pondok Pesantren Qudsiyyah Putri Kudus in the 2021/2022 academic year before and after being taught using small group discussion techniques. So, the Reading Comprehension Technique Using Small Group Discussion is the best effective technique to develop students' reading comprehension of descriptive text in class VII Pondok Pesantren Qudsiyyah Putri Kudus in the academic year 2021/2022.
