Abstrak
Communication is the common activities that must people do to deliver their idea to the other. In this activity there will be two sides that are the sender and receiver. The sender that is a person who delivers the idea and the receiver is a person who accepts the idea. The main goals of this activity are not only to deliver the idea from the sender to the receiver clearly but also to make a good situation when the communication occurs. People can judge a person from the way he communicates with each other. Because of that we must keep our language and polite to make communication clearly. Nowadays, politeness seems ignored from our society, especially for the students. Students still have difficulties to apply politeness strategy when they speak with other. They use same sentence to speak, and there are no politeness. It is caused by their habit which politeness is ignoring when they have conversation. Because of that reason, the writer used Facebook chatting to be analyzed in order to understand the politeness strategies. The purpose of using Facebook chatting is to develop the understanding about politeness strategies. The purpose of this research is to find out kinds of politeness strategies and the context of situation are used in conversation in internet chatting of facebook. This research is descriptive research, which give description of politeness strategies and the context of situation in internet chatting of facebook. The writer takes the data from the beginning conversation until the end, then the writer analyzes the kinds of politeness strategies that are used in the conversation and describe the sentence in form of table, after that the writer will analyze the context of situation. The result of this research shows that there are three kinds of politeness strategies are used in conversation in internet chatting of Facebook, they are: Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Bald on Record and three kinds contexts of situation are used in conversation in internet chatting of facebook, they are: field, mode, and tenor. After knowing the result of this research, it can be concluded that with knowing the politeness strategy; we can know the suitable language style which will be used to make conversation with certain person from different backgrounds which is found in many places, like in social networking (facebook chatting). And with use facebook chatting we can be fun to learn how to make conversation with various language style and check our understanding about politeness strategy.
