Abstrak

Language is an important thing in a communication that is used by human being. It is an instrument to send person’s message, idea, or mind to another person. In our daily life we always share our thought by using two or more languages. The speaker often inserts one language elements into other languages. This event is called code mixing. On this condition the writer tries to analyze code mixing in SBY’s speech in the Grand Opening of Indonesia Stock Exchange which uses code mixing to interact with the listener. This code mixing happens when SBY use two languages together to the extent that he changes by inserting pieces of one language to another in one course of single utterance. This research is aimed at (i) finding the forms of code mixing in SBY’s speech in the Grand Opening of Indonesia Stock Exchange (ii) Finding the function of code mixing found in SBY’s Speech in the Grand Opening of Indonesia Stock Exchange. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data of the research is taken from the official website of SBY on March 15th 2013. Based on the result of the study, the writer had succeded collecting the forms and the functions of code mixing in SBY’s speech in the Grand Opening of Indonesia Stock Exchange. The writer found five forms. They are word, phrase, hybrid, idiom, and clause. The writer found 66 forms of word, 101 forms of phrase, 5 forms of hybrid, 1 form of idiom and 22 forms of clause. While, the writer found four functions, they are Informational function, Expressive function, Directive function, and Phatic function. The functions consist of 117 Informational function, 19 code mixing as Expressive function, 53 code mixing of Directive Function, and 6 code mixing as Phatic function. From the conclution of this research, the writer suggests people to know about code mixing and to use code mixing in their communication because it is important to add their vocabularies, specially people who want to master of English language they may use code mixing before.
