Abstrak

The palm oil industry as an important industry in Indonesia is demanded to conduct business in a sustainable way, includingthe implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM). However, there still exists some barriersthat prevent theimplementationof GSCM in this industry, and until to dateand until to date, there is no research which comprehensively discuss such barriers. This study aims to identify potential barriersof implementingGSCM in the palm oil industry in Indonesia, to model the relationship between GSCM barriers andto classify itusing the MICMAC approach. The interpretive structural modeling method isused in this study, where the stages began with a literature study to obtain GSCM indicators relevant to Indonesia’s palm oil industry, from whichthe barriersare identified. The structural self-interaction matrix (SSIM) is then developedbased on contextual relationships between barriers. Such relationship are identifiedby gatheringexperts opinion who have worked in thepalm oil industry. Furthermore, SSIM isthen converted into a binary matrixto get the level of each barrier. The level partitions stage is then applied todevelopa chart and tomodel the GSCM barriers. Following these steps, this research identifies15 GSCM barriers in the palm oil industry, which arearranged into a 6-leveland divided into four clusters. This research is the first step toward the implemention of GSCM in palm oil industry in Indonesia. It provides promising opportunity for government and industries to formulate the strategy to eliminate such barriers.
