Abstrak

Four skills in English are listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening as the first skill has important role in studying English, so the writer did the research entitle “using on line audio material to improve listening skill in university”. The research questions are:(1) what are the students’ problems to study on line audio material of listening?;(2)what are the strategies used to study on line audio material of listening?and (3) what are the advantages of using on line audio material of listening?. This study aims to know the problems, the strategies used and the advantages of using on line audio material of listening. By using descriptive qualitative approach, the study shows that the students are lack of vocabulary and pronounciation. They have difficulties to find the appropriate listening’s on line audio materials. Repeating the speech sounds, having much discussion and listening exercises are the strategies used to solve the problems. The advantages of using on line audio material are many recent and interesting listening topics to learn. In conclusion, using on line audio material is the way to learn listening. The writer suggests that on line audio material can be used as material in teaching and learning listening in which the materiasl have been appropriated with the curriculum in university.
