Abstrak

An Analysis of English Midterm Test of TheTenth Grade Students at Even Semester of SMAN 1 GebogKudus in Academic Year 2012/2013.English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muria Kudus University. Advisor: (1) TitisSulistyowati, SS. M.Pd. (2) Drs. Suprihadi, M.Pd. Key Word : reliability, validity, item difficulty and item discrimination power. Teaching is related the learning process and testing is related to an evaluation process. One of instrument that often used in evaluation process is a testing. To asses the student’s achievement, the teacher must conduct the test. Test that made by the teacher called teacher made test. The midterm test construct by the teacher. It is still to be questioned whether the test is valid and reliable or not, because teacher rarely tried out the test first before giving it to the students. Knowing the fact, the writer analyzes the test so that the teacher will know the quality of the test. In this research, the writer chooses SMA 1 Gebog Kudus as a subject of her observation because in this place there are few teachers who do analysis in test that they have made. The writer also found in midterm test there are a lot of students got score under KKM or under 76. The objectives of this research are (i) Todescribe the reliability found in English Midterm test of the tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013. (ii) To describe the validity found in English Midterm test of the tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013. (iii) To describe the item difficulty found in English Midterm test of the tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013. (vi) Todescribe the item discrimination power found in English Midterm test of the tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013. The research was conducted in descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research are the analysis of reliability, validity, item difficulty and discrimination power. The data source of this research are taken from the question sheet and answer sheet of the midterm test of tenth grade students at even semester in Academic year 2012/2013 at SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus. The result of the research showed that the reliability of English Midterm Test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is categorized high reliability. Face validity of the midterm test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is categorized lack face validity. The content validity of English Midterm Test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is categorized good. The construct validity of English Midterm Test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is categorized good. The item difficulty of English Midterm Test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is categorized easy item (value 0.71 Up to 1.00). The item discrimination power of English Midterm Test of tenth grade students at even semester of SMAN 1 Gebog Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is poor with discrimination value between 0.00 – 0.20. Based on the result of research above, the writer concludes that an analysis of English Midterm Test of the tenth grade students at even semester of SMA 1 GebogKudus in Academic Year 2012/2013 is a good test based on the characteristic of good test.
