Key words: Reading Comprehension, Webbing Technique The success of teaching English as a foreign language is determined by many factors such as, the teacher, material, and the attitudes of the students towards studying English. Therefore, English teacher have to be aware that their students must study English more effectively, especially for reading because everyone needs information to know the world development. The information is very important for us to develop our knowledge, skills or just entertain. In accessing information, we should have a good reading skill because we need to understand the meaning of the text. So reading is very important for us. The purpose of the writer is to find out: whether or not there is any significant difference the ability of reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 taught by and without using Webbing Technique. In this research the writer uses experimental research design control group. There are two variables; Webbing Technique as independent variable and the ability of reading comprehension of eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 as dependent variable. The writer determines seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 as the population. The writer takes samples in 8H as class of experiment. After conducting the treatment of reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 taught by using Webbing Technique, The result of the experiment can be seen that the calculation of t-test, with the level of significance 5%, the Degree of Freedom (Df) is 33, and t-table (tt) 2.04, the t- obtained (to) 4.33. In the other words, t-obtained is higher than t-table. The reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus after being taught by using Webbing Technique is “good”. It is showed by the mean is 79.3 and the standard deviation is 8.4. It is higher than the mean of the reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus before being taught by using Webbing Technique in academic year 2013/2014 which the mean 68.9 and standard deviation is 10. It is categorized as “sufficient”. It means that the Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is confirmed. Based on the research result above, the writer concludes that Webbing Technique is appropriate in teaching reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Jati Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. For the teacher and the other researcher, Webbing Techniquecan be useful as the reference for further research and teaching learning especially in reading comprehension.
