Abstrak
Reading is one of four basic skills in English which has many contributions in enhancing and enriching students’ knowledge. To master reading skill, the readers need good comprehension in reading activity. It is not only related to know about the code of the reading text but also to full meaning from whole reading text. It means the reading comprehension involves the thinking process. Many kinds of texts must be learned by the students, especially tenth grade students, and one kind of the texts is narrative text. Narrative is a piece of text tells a story and in doing so, entertains of informs the reader or listener. Teaching reading especially narrative text in senior high school is not easy because the students are difficult to understand and confused about the text. After analyzing the problems, the writer assumed to use story pyramid strategy to improve reading comprehension of the students. Story pyramid strategy is a great strategy for the students to comprehend the text easily. This strategy uses to help students organize the information and ideas the story efficiently. The objective of this research is to find out how story pyramid can improve the reading comprehension of the X-9 students of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. This research used a collaborative classroom action research design. It consist four stages. These are planning, acting, observing and reflecting. This research is conducted at the X-9 students of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. The writer found that the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text improved in each cycle. The result of reading comprehension of narrative text is in pre cycle is 55.92% as sufficient category, in cycle I is 72.36% as good category, and the improvement score also happened in cycle II is 85.26% as very good category. All of the students could reach the KKM in cycle II. Beside, the problem that faced by the teacher are decreased in each cycle. Based on the result above, the writer concludes that Story Pyramid Strategy can improve reading comprehension of narrative text of the X-9 students of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014. Therefore, the writer suggest to the teacher to use story pyramid strategy for teaching reading of narrative text.
