Abstrak

Writing is one of the skills which are taught to Junior High School students as one of the teaching and learning activities in English class. Commonly, the students have dificulties to write. The students find it hard to start writing because they have no idea about what to write. Because of that, teacher must use media that apropiate to improve writing skill of the students. The objectives of the research are to find out whether the use Facebook improves the writing skill of the eighth grade students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati in the academic year 2013/2014. This is classroom action research. The researcher conducted in the eighth grade students of MTs Miftahul Huda Pati in academic year 2013/2014. The subject of the research is the grade VIII in second semester. The material used is recount text. The writer uses some instrument in this research. They are observation sheet and achievement test. The result of this research shows that there is an improvement in every cycle. In cycle I, the average score of achievement test of writing skill by using Facebook is 69.4. In cycle II, the average score of achievement test of writing skill by using Facebook in cycle II is 82.5. So, there is an increasing of the average score of the students’ writing skill in every cycle. The students’ writing skill (organization, content, grammar, punctuation, style and quality of expression) in each test improved, too. In addition, based on the result of observation sheet, most of students seemed more enthusiastic in writing when using Facebook as media in their learning. They could share about recount text on Facebook and also could give comments and likings on their writing. The researcher concluded that Facebook as media of teaching English had proven effective in improving the ability of English writing of the students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati in academic year 2013/2014. Based on the result of the research above, the researcher can conclude that the use of Facebook can improve students’ writing skill in recount text at the Eighth Grade Students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati in the academic 2013/2014. The researcher also suggests that English teachers should conduct the research by looking at the situation and condition in the school. The school should provide hotspot and computer in every class. Teacher also should have main equipment such as Laptop, Projector and Modem. And the teacher has to pay attention with the limited time in the process of teaching learning process in the classroom.
