Abstrak

The improvement of the students’ English speaking ability can be reached if the teaching speaking uses the appropriate teaching technique and it is appropriate with the principles for teaching speaking. “Talking Futsal Game” is one of the appropriate teaching techniques to improve students’ speaking ability in English. This technique is used to overcome the lack of students’ self-confidence in speaking English. By using “Talking Futsal Game”, it is easier for the students to describe the picture. It is because the activities in “Talking Futsal Game” is interesting for the students. Teaching and learning spoken descriptive text by using “Talking Futsal Game” uses picture as a media of teaching. the students describe the picture based on the rules of “Talking Futsal Game”, and the rule is same with the real playing futsal but the ball is changed by the picture. The purpose of this researchis to find out whether “Talking Futsal Game” can improve the speaking ability in descriptive text of the eleventh grade students of IPA 3 of SMA N 1 Jakenan Pati in academic year 2013/2014. It is expected that the result of the study will provide a deeper understanding in describing picture by using “Talking Futsal Game” as a teaching technique. The design of this research is Action Research. There are four steps in conducting the Action Research, they are planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This action research is done in two cycles. The material in the first cycle was Job, Person, and Food by using “Talking Futsal Game”. While the second cycle was place, fruits, person, and food by using “Talking Futsal Game”. After that, to know the improvement of the students’ speaking ability by using “Talking Futsal Game”, the teacher gave the test. The test is describing picture in front of the class one by one. The result of the Action Research shows that the average scorein the first cycle is 74.7, whereas the KKM is 75. So, the students’ speaking ability in the first cycle could not reach KKM. And the average score in the second cycle is 80.5, it shows that the students’ speaking ability in the second cycle can reach KKM. Then, it can be concluded that there is improvement of the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of IPA3 of SMA N 1 Jakenan Pati in academic year 2013/2014. So, “Talking Futsal Game” can improve the speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of IPA3 of SMA N 1 Jakenan Pati in academic year 2013/2014. And based on the result of the research above, the writer suggests that the teachercan modify “Talking Futsal Game “ as techniquein teaching not only in the speaking class, but also in all of English skill.The students have to improve their mastery of present tense so they can produce good descriptive text. And the students should be more active and creative to describe picture by using “TFG”.
