Abstrak

Speaking is reputed to be the most important in learning a second or foreign language. To improve speaking ability, teacher needs to use a media or technique in teaching English. Creative story game is a kind of game that can be used to develop speaking ability while learning English. Creative story game can increase the students imagination and creativity to speak English through a story that they produced by themselves. The objectives of this research are; (i) to find out the implementation of creative story game in teaching speaking of the second semester in Muria Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014. (ii) to find out whether creative story game can improve the speaking ability of the second semester students of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014. The research is done at the second semester students of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014. The classroom action research is used to design this research and followed by two cycles. Each cycle is conducted through four steps; they are: planning, action, observation and reflection. In this research, the researcher chooses Intermediate Speaking C2 that consists of 21 students to conduct the research. The result of this research are; (i) in implementation creative story game, the students look enthusiastic and get fun in playing the creative story game because they can speak freely, they can deliver their own idea in their own story. (ii) The students’ speaking score improves from cycle I until cycle II. In cycle I, the average score is 52.94 and in cycle II improves become 77.11. Based on the result of the research above, the conclusion is creative story game can improve the speaking ability of Intermediate Speaking C2 students of Muria Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014, and the researcher suggests that the teacher should use interesting technique in teaching speaking. The teacher is suggested to use creative story game as a technique to improve students speaking ability since it offers more advantages in improving students’ speaking ability.
