Abstrak

In learning English, first the most important thing to thinking about is vocabulary , especially for young learners like Elementary school students.Vocabulary is one of the most important components of any language class.Nouns is very important because its structure is used in every day conversation.English nouns are words used to name a person, animal, place, thing, or abstract ideas. Nouns is the most important part of vocabulary, it would be hard to talk about something without nouns because noun can serve as the subject or object.Teaching media has been used in this research to improve the English noun vocabulary mastery. Colored Pictures is media which can help the students to improve their English noun vocabulary mastery. This research has purposes to find out the answerof the statement of the problem. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out if Colored Picture can improve the English noun vocabulary masteryof the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 in academic year 2014/2015, (2)to know how is the classroom atmosphere when Colored Picture is applied to improve the English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 in academic year 2014/2015 This research is a classroom action research (CAR). In 1 cycle of CAR consists of 4 steps; planning, acting, observing, and reflection. The subject of this research is the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati class B which consists of 26 students. In this research, the writer uses two instruments; test and observation sheet. The result of this research shows that there was improvement in English noun vocabulary mastery of the students taught by using Colored Pictures. It was proved by the improvement of the students’ score from the cycle 1 to the cycle 2. In cycle 1, many students got score under passing grade. 18 students were failed and 8 were passed in doing the first test. The average score of the students in cycle 1 was 63,2. While in cycle 2, 23 students were passed and only 3 students were failed in doing the test. The average score of the students in cycle 2 was 74.An improvement also happened in students’ activity. It can be seen in cycle 2. There were many students became active in the class. Most of them responded and gave attention to the teacher during the teaching and learning process. It was different with the previous condition in cycle 1 in which many students did not be active in the class. Seeing the process and results of this research, the writer concludes that Colored Pictures can improve the English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati in academic year 2014/2015 and the use of Colored Pictures can help the students to be active in the class. The writer suggests that the English teacher should apply a good media in teaching and learning process. Colored Pictures can be used as a good media in teaching vocabulary. In fact, the mediacan improve the English noun vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SDN Wedarijaksa 02 Pati in academic year 2014/2015.
