Abstrak

Writing is one of the important English language skills. To arrange the good writing text we have to have a lot of knowledge and vocabulary. The ability in using appropriate tense determines the quality of writing text. Meanwhile, the students of SMP N 3 Kudus felt that writing is the most difficult skill of those language skills, because it is a very complex process. The students also feel difficult to write daily activity paragraph by using simple present tense. The writer uses picture cued to find out the students’ writing ability. Based on the reason above, the writer is interested to carry on research entitled “The Ability in Writing Daily Activity Paragraph Based on Picture Cued of the Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 3 Kudus in the Academic Year 2011 / 2012” The purposes of the research is to find out the students’ ability in writing daily activity paragraph of the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Kudus in academic year 2011/2012. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The population of the research is seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012. By using cluster random sampling technique, the sample of this research is VII C which consists of 40 students. The instrument of the research was an essay test given to the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Kudus in the academic year 2011/2012. The result of this research shows that the ability in writing daily activity paragraph based on picture cued of seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Kudus in the academic year 2010/2011 get the highest score is 77, the lowest score is 50, mean is 67.63, median is 68.59, modus is 68.88, and the standard deviation is 7.88. It can be inferred that the ability in writing daily activity paragraph based on picture cued of seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Kudus in the academic year 2010/2011 is categorized as good Considering the process and the results of this research, the writer suggests that (i) teacher should explain how to make a paragraph first before asking the students to produce writing paragraph in addition, make sure that the students understand, about grammar especially simple present tense (ii) The students should also improve their writing skills because writing is one of the English language skills should be mastered by the students. Writing daily activity paragraph by using appropriate simple present tense should also be understood by the students.
