Listening is the first skill of English to study. In studying listening, the students listen to the audio and try to answer some questions provided based on the audio. Unfortunately, answering the question of listening is not an easy task to do. Moreover, to comprehend the content of the audio of listening is also difficult. In other words, the students need to practice a lot for comprehending the content of the audio and the questions of listening in order to answer all the exercises correctly. To solve the problems, this paper tries to provide how to be familiar with listening by learning the listening exercise types and the strategies used to answer. Listening is the active process of receiving, constructing meaning from, and responding to spoken and/or non verbal messages. It involves the ability to retain information as well as to react emphatically and or appreciatively to spoken and/or non verbal message (ILA. 1995). The type of exercises which are utilized at the class should measure the competence and the purpose of the study. Consequently, Teacher must know how to create listening exercise to measure students’ ability. The teachers also give clear instruction as guideline for the students to answer the exercises.
