Abstrak
Pronunciation is one of the elements of language that is important for students. Pronunciation will effect in speaking skill. In this skill, students learn how to pronounce a word or sentences with vowel, consonant, stress, intonation, and interval correctly related to English speech sound. To learn English, the students must practice English it as often as possible and to make English as daily habit. By practicing a lot their English will improve naturally. Singing English song was a good habit to help the students practice their speaking. The students may practice their fluency and pronunciation by singing English song along the singer and imitate the pronunciation of the words which are sung by the singer. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is a significant correlation between habit in singing English songs and the mastery of the pronunciation of the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014. The study is a correlation research. The population used in this research is the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014. The population of the eleventh grade students is more than one hundred (320 students), so the writer uses cluster random sampling through lottery. The writer gets XI TKJ 1 as instrument of the research which total of the students are 28 students. The result of the research shows that show that the 67.8 percent of the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014 has passive category in habit in singing English songs. Then, the 71.5 percent of the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014 has need work category in mastery of the pronunciation. The coefficient correlation is 0.76 and the degree of freedom is 28. It means that the hypothesis null can be rejected on the position α = 0.05 with the r table 0.377. It is categorized as “high correlation” Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between habit in singing English songs and the mastery of pronunciation of the eleventh grade students of SMK NU Ma’arif Kudus in the academic year 2013/2014. Thus, the writer suggests that the teachers to use singing English songs as a teaching technique to improve students’ mastery of pronunciation. The students should increase their habit of singing English song to make their mastery of pronunciation well.
